Experience and resourcing capability: delivering on difficult projects.

Following a number of near-miss incidents, Wingecarribee Shire Council recognised road safety concerns relating to a level railway crossing in Berrima.

The Council determined the best solution was to build an overhead bypass. This meant upgrading and relocating the 33kV and 11kV transmission lines – BAU for any ASP1, except that this had to be undertaken in low-lying swampland.

Our expertise, experience and resources were called in to get the job done.

The challenges:
– Extremely difficult access
– Adjacent to active railway line
– Rural location
– Concrete poles requiring heavy duty equipment for installation
– Environmentally sensitive wetland area

The Ausconnex team, led by our resident Civil Engineering expert, Abdullah Al Nasseri, executed specialised processes, including:

– Detailed environmental assessment by our HSEQ team
– Building temporary all-weather access tracks
– Installing temporary landing pads layered with Geotech fabric and ballast
– Engaging a 70 tonne Crawler Crane, supplied by Mega-Lift Solutions
– Using a Spider Elevated Work Platform (EWP) supplied by McMahons Power Lines

The team were supported by specialist delivery resources located nearby at Moss Vale, Springhill and Bowral.

Result: the project was delivered with 100% risk mitigation and all introduced access materials were removed at the completion of the project.
